Just like sunflowers, we too need encouragement and support from others in our walk with Christ. The journey of faith can be difficult at times, and we may feel like we are walking alone. However, God never intended for us to walk alone. He created us to be in community with others, to support and encourage each other in our journeys. As we reflect on the example of sunflowers and how they look to each other for encouragement, let us be reminded of the importance of community in our walk with Christ.

Elizabeth Brooks shares a beautiful reflection on the healing power of love and the meaning of names. She draws inspiration from her daughters’ names, Cordelia and Althea, and the biblical symbolism of the rose of Sharon. Through her reflections, she reminds us of the vastness of God’s love and the sacrifice Jesus made for our salvation, as illustrated in the parable of the pearl of great price. She also shares a personal moment of grief and beauty, as a picture of a storm in Kansas coincided with her grandma’s passing, reminding her of the power and beauty of nature and God’s love even amidst life’s storms. Overall, this post is a touching tribute to the power of love to heal and restore, and a reminder to cherish the precious pearls of great price in our lives.

As Christians, we are called to make our lives an altar to God, to offer ourselves as living sacrifices of worship and service. This means that every aspect of our lives should be dedicated to God, and we should strive to grow closer to Him each day. In 1 Peter 2:5, the apostle Peter describes believers as “living stones” that are being built into a spiritual house, with Jesus as the cornerstone. This metaphor reminds us that we are part of a larger community of believers and that our individual lives are pieces of a greater whole.
But how do we make our lives an altar to God? It starts with intentional spiritual growth. We need to cultivate a sense of identity as the beloved of God, knowing that we are deeply loved and accepted by Him. This means spending time in prayer, reading the Bible, and seeking out community with other believers. We also need to be willing to offer ourselves to God in worship and service, using our talents and abilities to glorify Him and serve others.
Ultimately, making our lives an altar to God is a lifelong journey, one that requires constant effort and commitment. But as we draw closer to Him and offer ourselves to Him in worship and service, we will experience the joy and peace that comes from living a life that is fully devoted to Him.

In the Gospel of John, we read about Jesus entering the temple and driving out the merchants and money changers who were using the holy space for their own gain. This event, known as the cleansing of the temple, is a powerful reminder of Jesus’ passion for true worship and his desire for the temple to be a house of prayer for all nations. As we reflect on this event, we are challenged to examine our own lives and ask ourselves if we are using the sacred spaces in our own lives for the right purposes. May we follow Jesus’ example and strive to make all of our actions and activities reflect his love and grace.

Abiding in the calm delight of the Lord is a daily practice that requires intentional effort. By finding joy and strength in the Lord, we can cultivate a heart of peace and contentment. Spending time in His presence, surrendering our worries to Him, focusing on His promises, practicing gratitude, and staying rooted in community are all practical steps we can take to abide in His presence. Just as the sunflower always faces the sun to receive the energy it needs to grow and thrive, we too must fix our eyes on Jesus, the Son of God, to draw our strength and joy from Him. May we intentionally seek the Lord’s presence and trust in His promises, drawing our strength and joy from Him like the sunflower.
