My Thoughts

The Secret Garden was one of my favorite childhood books. I love that this devotional flawlessly ties the chapters in the book with beautifully written devotionals that will have you strolling through the garden and finding hidden seeds of wisdom that are no longer secret. Each devotional consists of a synopsis of a book chapter, a book quote, scripture references, personal application, and a prayer. The author has a beautiful gift of sharing how the book relates to stories from the Bible and scripture. The illustrations are beautiful, and this companion book would make the perfect addition to anyone’s library, especially if you love the original! This book will leave you refreshed and revived as the Lord cultivates the garden in your heart as you spend time with Him and grow. I highly recommend this book, and I can’t wait to check out others from this author. I really want to check out the devotionals for Anne of Green Gables and Little Women.

Disclosure: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

“Mary made up her mind that she would always carry [the key] with her when she went out, so that if she ever should find the hidden door she would be ready.”

Just as Mary always keeps the key in her pocket, so we should always be ready to share the love of Jesus with others. As a follower of Christ, you carry the Good News with you everywhere you go! Whether you’re on a walk, at the store, or at work or school, you have a precious gift to share with others. With that in mind, keep your eyes open for opportunities each day and ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide your steps. He will set up divine appointments. He will unlock doors you could never open on your own.

The New Testament story of Philip and the Ethiopian is an incredible example of someone who was ready and willing to share the Good News at any time and in any place. In Acts 8, God sent Philip to talk to an Ethiopian eunuch—a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians—who was seated in a chariot
alongside the road, reading the words of the prophet Isaiah. When the man asked Philip to explain its meaning, Philip “opened his mouth, and beginning with
this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus” (Acts 8:35 ESV). The man asked to be baptized, and when they came to some water beside the road, Philip baptized him!

“See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut.” (Revelation3:8 NIV)
