We’ve been preparing for Easter by watching Easter movies as a family on Pureflix. One of our favorites has been “The Messiah: A Brickfilm.” If you have a child that loves legos, this is a great way to teach them about the final hours of Jesus’ life.
The Last Supper
On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”
He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’ ” So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”
They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?”
Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”
Jesus answered, “You have said so.”
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

I highly recommend watching the “Passion of the Christ” after the children go to bed, as it’s intended for mature audiences. This movie has always been one of my favorites, as I rededicated my life to Jesus after watching this movie. I was in an abusive relationship and the scene below really grabbed me on how much the Lord Jesus loves us.
“Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, come down from thecross and save yourself!” In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save him-self! Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.”
Mark 15:29-32
I remember when he said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”, and thinking with my black eye and bruised ribs how hard that would be to say or to pray for others. That is then when I realized how much he truly loves and cares for us all, what he endured, and how the commandment to love others is lived out even in the hardest of circumstances. This movie truly changed my life.
