“Day 25 – Has God Forgotten Me?” p. 110, 246 words

Ravensbruck was a work camp. The enemy planned to work us to death. Before the war ended, 96,000 women died there. Even my dear Betsie became an old woman before my eyes and slowly starved to death.

The smoke from the crematorium was like a black haze over the camp. Every day seven hundred women died or were killed. There were far too many of us, and death was the only solution to the problem. I looked death in the eye day after day, and I found the Lord to be my refuge. He had not forsaken me. On the contrary, His presence became my hiding place.

In all that hell around us, the promises from the Bible kept us sane. I slowly learned not to trust in myself, my faith or my feelings, but to trust in Him. It was vital to remain anchored to His Word when my thoughts fought to lead me astray. I hungered for the truths of His Word and relied on them to strengthen me when our tiny bits of food could not.

The greatest moment of your life can occur when everything seems finished for you. This is when you lay your weak hand in the strong hand of Jesus who can make life and death—present and future—victorious! He can give you eternal life that starts right now. A life that is filled with the understanding that He will never leave you. But first, you must believe.

My Review

I’m so very excited to review a devotional by Corrie Ten Boom today! God is My Hiding Place is a 40-day devotional comprised of a collection of writings by Corrie ten Boom that inspires readers to be bold in their faith. If you are unfamiliar with her, in 1940, the Germans invaded the Netherlands, and Corrie ten Boom and her family helped to hide as many Jews as possible. The German army caught Corrie and her sister and sent them to a concentration camp. They shared the good news about Jesus to many people, and God gave her the strength to go on until the war ended. Since then, she’s written many books and talked to crowds. This devotional was such a treasure to read, and it was a great reminder that there is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.

I think it’s essential to learn about heartfelt journeys of faith like this one, during one of the darkest times of our history, so that we can share them with not only ourselves but our children as well. Even though Corrie went through unimaginable pain and suffering, she trusted God with her life and is a constant reminder that God is enough.

I highly recommend this devotional and believe it will encourage you to hold fast in your faith with a God that loves you deeper than you can imagine, is gracious even under the most challenging of circumstances, and is our hiding place in which we can find courage and strength. It’s one you will want to read over and over and share with your family and friends.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
