“Day 25 – Has God Forgotten Me?” p. 110, 246 words
Ravensbruck was a work camp. The enemy planned to work us to death. Before the war ended, 96,000 women died there. Even my dear Betsie became an old woman before my eyes and slowly starved to death.
The smoke from the crematorium was like a black haze over the camp. Every day seven hundred women died or were killed. There were far too many of us, and death was the only solution to the problem. I looked death in the eye day after day, and I found the Lord to be my refuge. He had not forsaken me. On the contrary, His presence became my hiding place.
In all that hell around us, the promises from the Bible kept us sane. I slowly learned not to trust in myself, my faith or my feelings, but to trust in Him. It was vital to remain anchored to His Word when my thoughts fought to lead me astray. I hungered for the truths of His Word and relied on them to strengthen me when our tiny bits of food could not.
The greatest moment of your life can occur when everything seems finished for you. This is when you lay your weak hand in the strong hand of Jesus who can make life and death—present and future—victorious! He can give you eternal life that starts right now. A life that is filled with the understanding that He will never leave you. But first, you must believe.
