We were so thrilled to attend the virtual premier of A Week Away. It’s an upcoming Netflix Original Christian-Musical directed by Roman White and written by Alan Powell, Gabe Vasquez, and Kali Bailey. It’s the first faith-based musical of its kind.

Troubled teen Will Hawkins (Kevin Quinn) has a choice to make – go to juvenile detention or attend a Christian summer camp. While at camp, and with the help of his music, new friends and love interest (Bailee Madison), he learns the healing powers of kindness, forgiveness, and faith can be found in the most unlikely of places.

The movie “A Week Away” will be available this Friday, March 26, 2021 on Netflix.

Parents – if you grew up like me, you probably went to Christian camp, and jammed to Amy Grant & Michael W. Smith on your cassette player. If so, you are really in for a treat – and are going to love this movie! If not, there is still something for everyone to love! It’s definitely made for the whole family to enjoy together – and the soundtrack is unbelievable!

This movie features original songs as well as covers of prominent Christian Contemporary Artists including Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Audio Adrenaline, Rich Mullins, and For King & Country.

Legendary contemporary Christian music artists Amy Grant and Steven Curtis Chapman make cameo appearances in the film as a camp counselor and the camp lifeguard, respectively. Amy Grant was thrilled to be part of the film, “It was incredible. How those songs were placed felt like they were written for the script and the story.”

The film also includes three new original tunes penned by Adam Watts (High School Musical 3, Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert). He also produced, arranged, engineered, mixed and mastered all the songs, apart from the bonus track with Johnnyswim and wife.

Actor Bailee Madison, who plays Avery, has been acting since she was a little girl, so summer camp wasn’t part of her childhood. Working on A Week Away felt like making up for lost time for Bailee, who felt like a kid in a candy store. Looking back on the experience of filming A Week Away, Bailee was thrilled to be surrounded by people her own age since she has spent much of her career primarily acting alongside colleagues much older than her.

The original song “Good Enough” is one of Bailee’s favorite songs in the film. “I think growing up in the world of social media, while you are always being compared and judged on how you should look and dress sets up a facade of false perfection. And we need to be reminded that we are exactly who are supposed to be. That we are good enough just the way God made us. That’s such an important message right now.”

My daughters, Althea and Cordelia (ages 8 and 9) not only loved this movie (and can’t wait to watch it again on Friday), they’ve been playing the soundtrack non-stop for 2 days! Their favorite song on the album is “Awesome God/God Only Knows”.

The official soundtrack of Netflix’s Film “A Week Away” can be streamed now, with the physical album releasing April 23, 2021.
