Take a break from the screens and come have a listen to Highlights Hangout, a new podcast from the makers of the 72 year old iconic Highlights For Children and Tinkercast, the creators of the smash hit NPR podcast Wow in the World, which is currently the most popular podcast for kids.
This magazine-style show hosted by Tim Kubart and Juanita Andersen offers a unique audio spin on the stories, characters, puzzles, and jokes that millions of kids dive into each month in the pages of Highlights including “Goofus and Gallant”, “The Hidden Sound Game” (“Hidden Pictures” with sounds!), and listener submitted jokes, tongue twisters, poems and wow-worthy science questions answered by Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz from “Wow in the World”!
I remember as a small child, gathering around the radio as a family to listen to radio stories that came on weekly. I’m very excited to have something similar to offer my children, especially in today’s “screen time” day and age. I also adore that they’ve incorporated everything I love about the beloved magazine, and made it into a wonderful podcast that the whole family can love and enjoy! We can’t wait for the next episode that will debut September 3rd.
Highlights Hangout Episode 4: Rainy Day Radio Play – Debuting Sept. 3rd
Description: It’s a stormy day in the Hangout. Tim and Juanita decide to combine Tim’s love of detective radio plays and Juanita’s adoration of fairy tales into one epic “Rainy Day Radio Play.” As Tim and Juanita write their dramatic story and come up with sound effects to underscore the drama from around the Hangout, they get a visit from Goofus and Gallant™ who sing a song about getting ready for the school year. They get a Hangmail for Arizona, who writes her Ask Arizona™ column about the time she overscheduled too many activities and everything went embarrassingly wrong. Then Mindy and Guy answer a wow-worthy science question about how taste buds work. This episode also features the Hidden Sound game, our play on Highlights™ magazine’s Hidden Pictures™ puzzles.
Call 888-5-HANGOUT to record YOUR jokes, riddles, tongue twisters, poems, or science questions, and you just might hear yourself in our next Hangout!
